Kory Callihan – God had different plans for me.

Hi there!  I’m Kory.  I am 33 years old so far! I live in Indiana.  My husband and I moved here from Missouri for employment.  We just celebrated our 10 year anniversary!  I have a bachelor’s degree in automotive, but I have been an artist all my life. I went into automotive thinking it would be a better avenue to support myself than studio art.  However, God had different plans for me.  I was laid off shortly after we moved, but my husband retained his job.  Currently, I am a stay at home mom of two young beautiful and squirrelly girls.  Right now my medium of choice is photography, though I still draw and keep doing more traditional art in my bible.  So how in the world did I get into bible journaling?!

Hmm…  I started going to BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).  There I was encouraged to underline things and write questions in my bible.  Why had I never thought of doing this?!  I had an older teen study bible that I wrote and doodled in.  Then I stumbled across bible journaling on Pinterest.  I knew it was something I wanted to pursue, but not the way I had seen before.  Many peoples’ bible journaling is beautiful, happy, and bright.  They were wonderfully arranged like a scrapbook.  That type of art had never been my strong suit, and I knew I had to do it my own way.  I went out and bought an interleaved version.  My motivation was that I wanted it to be more of an heirloom for my girls.  I wanted them to treasure God’s word too.  When I was scared to try something I would experiment in my old teen study bible. I am inspired by apologetics, hymns, art history, tattoos, and typography.  I love that God has introduced me to this idea, and has raised up so many talented Christian artists.  Please be encouraged to keep trying and experimenting with bible journaling! It doesn’t all have to be beautiful.  I know I have been blessed by seeing other’s works, and I hope that you are blessed by seeing mine!
